The crowd was small in number but big on enthusiasm. It was like a car left out in the cold for a while; we had to warm up a bit, but soon everyone was having a good time, rockin out and dancing. There were some copies of Iraq available. Introducing “Change,” Larry said it was a song they hadn't played in 7 years and Joe hasn't ever played it, except on a jukebox while he abd P2 are out drinking on Sunday nights. They call Larry, drunk at 3 in the morning telling him they should play it live. After 26 weeks of this, Larry finally caught on. So that's how you get Black 47 to play your requests? I've been going about this all wrong. After the song, Larry said the last time they played “Change”it live was Paddy Reilly's. I've never even heard it live. Joe & P2 are to be commended for this. Not only for getting Larry to play the song, but, as Chris points out, Sunday nights used to be a big night for drinking. The amateurs have Fridays and Saturdays. As Chris often advises, go out drinking on a Sunday night. It doesn't have to be at Rocky's, but it would be nice. Before Bobby Fuller, Larry quoted a writer from the Irish Voice as saying that “Home Of The Brave” is "the great, lost Black 47 album." I'm hoping it's not that lost because I need to replace mine. The copy I had was a very much loved, often played CD. I just replaced my Rebel Massive, and my Sunday At The Turn Of The Century is messed up. I hope CDs don't "dissolve" over time.
Set List: Road To Ruin, Green Suede Shoes, Stars n Stripes, The Reels, Sunrise, Starry Night, Rockin The Bronx, Different Drummer, Change, Ramadi, Who Killed Bobby Fuller?, Losin It, Jigs, Funky Ceili Encores: Sadr City, Like A Rolling Stone

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2007 @ CONNOLLY’S (KLUB 45)
With CelticLounge.com helping to sponsor the opening of Klub 45 (the 3rd Floor of Connolly’s), this was a well-attended gathering. Enter The Haggis opened for Black 47 and performed a very nice set. This was a nice way to spend a Thursday evening, with food and T-shirts provided by the sponsors.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2007 @ ROCKY SULLIVAN’S, RED HOOK, BROOKLYN
(Thanks to Heather for Set Lists & Review)
“Every time Big Man Terry sang We Gotta Get Out Of This Place, I knew that it was true--rent hike or not.” – Chris Byrne, on the move of Rocky Sullivan’s from Manhattan to Brooklyn.
Even before the gig started, there were more people at Rocky's then there were on most nights on Lexington. And after each Seanchai song, it was the weirdest thing; everyone in the entire packed room applauded. People cheered for the "You fuck with one, you fuck with all" line from Band Of Brothers. Yes, Chris joined Black 47 for Time To Go & Walk All The Days, but for me the show wasn't about the possible reunion, but rather it was seeing that Rocky's got a good start in its new location. As much as I like to say that I saw it coming, I was surprised at first by the move of Rocky Sullivan’s from Manhattan to Red Hook, Brooklyn. Rocky Sullivan’s was always there. It was a place to come back to as NYC nightlife weathered, weathers, and most likely continues to weather its many storms in the future. It was a place that had a life of its own, regardless of who was onstage or not. Of the new Rocky Sullivan’s, the neon beacon is still there. You can see it through the distance on the B77, and that’s when you have to ring the bell because the bus stops right outside Rocky Sullivan’s front door.
SEANCHAI & THE UNITY SQUAD (Set List): Irish Catholic Boy, Gypo, Saoirse, Mary Margaret, Family Reels, Something Inside So Strong, Rebel Massive w/ Wake Up Irishman. Band Of Brothers, Fortunate Son, Sunday Night Cruel, Trad Reels, Live A Little and Dance, Walk All The Days, Ernesto Guevera Lynch

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2007 @ THE MANHATTAN CENTER, NYC

Paddypalooza was great fun. Mary Courtney & Morning Star were wonderful. The brothers from Yonkers, Brian McCarthy of Jameson’s Revenge, and Dennis McCarthy of Shilelagh Law, added a wild dimension to the show; not just to Morning Star's set, but also during Black 47's set. The audience was enthusiastic and all were invited by Larry to join the band on stage for the encores. Never in my wildest imagination would I have dreamed of being on stage with Black 47, or sharing a mike with Larry during the chorus of Gloria & I Fought The Law. (For those who were there, my sincere apology for subjecting you to my singing voice). The venue had a large stage and excellent sound. The concert was filmed, and I hope they overdub my voice when it is released, and I also hope that it never appears on YouTube. Major highlights of the evening were Mary Courtney joining the band for a performance of Livin In America, as well as the introduction of two new songs. We also welcomed James to his first Black 47 show.
Set List: Green Suede Shoes, The Reels, Celtic Rocker, Stars & Stripes, Downtown Baghdad Blues, Blood Wedding, Rockin The Bronx, Different Drummer, James Connolly, Livin in America (w Mary Courtney), 40 Shades of Blue, Funky Ceili Encores: Gloria, I Fought The Law
SATURDAY, MARCH 17, 2007 @ BB KING'S (ST. PATRICK'S DAY)
This one was as good as is gets. It was a huge crowd in a great concert room. WBAI (99.5 FM) simulcasted the show, the sound system was perfect, and each and every vocal line was clearly heard. As is custom with the yearly St. Patrick’s Day show, there’s always a surprise. This time, it was the performance of Christine Ohlman, who was on hand to duplicate the “Blood Wedding” duet with Larry that can be heard on “New York Town.” What a treat! Ms. Ohlman remained onstage with the band to duet on “Black Rose,” singing the part that Rozz Morehead sings on the record. Ms. Ohlman would later join the band for its final encores, “Gloria” and “I Fought The Law.” Larry did a long, powerful shout out to the various troops on hand who recently returned from Iraq. This was a perfect segue way into “Downtown Baghdad Blues.” The show had everything, and I felt at times that I was back in Paddy Reilly’s experiencing the emotion of those early shows. At times, and particularly during the last few songs, the mosh pit area in front of the stage resembled a Pogues concert, complete with body surfing and occasional slam dancing. Greetings to Staten Island Tom, David, and to Michele & A.J. Also, greetings to our new friend from Chicago who played a mean cowbell. Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all readers of this website.
Set List: Big Fellah, Green Suede Shoes, The Reels, Three Little Birds, Desperate, Blood Wedding, Black Rose, Rockin The Bronx, Different Drummer, Five Points, Downtown Baghdad Blues, James Connolly, Izzy, 40 Shades of Blue, Funky Ceili Encores: Maria’s Wedding, Gloria, I Fought The Law
SATURDAY, MARCH 3, 2007 @ THE NUTTY IRISHMAN, FARMINGDALE, LI
Welcome Herb & Lisa to their first Black 47 show. The Nutty Irishman is a nice venue for a show, with a good sound system and two bars. The place happens to be located one block away from the now defunct “Downtown,” which previously hosted several Black 47 shows. Thanks to Larry for dedicating Green Suede Shoes to another one of my family members, also named Larry. I'll see everyone @ BB King’s for the St. Patrick’s Day show.
Set List: Big Fellah, Black Rose, The Reels, Green Suede Shoes, Izzy, Rockin The Bronx, 5 Points, Those Saints, Rosemary, James Connolly, 40 Shades of Blue, Funky Ceili Encores: Gloria, I Fought The Law, Like A Rolling Stone
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2007 @ CONNOLLY'S
Final Connolly’s show of the season featured a very spirited, packed house, and a record long set of 20 songs, including 4 encores. It was actually 21 songs, if you want to count the brief, improvised blues number that was done immediately following the reminder of the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day show at B.B. King’s. Further yet, for me it was actually 23 Black 47 songs because on Friday night I was lucky enough to see Chris finish his set at Rocky Sullivan's with "Walk All The Days" and "Time To Go." Another new song listed below: “Izzy,” featuring a chorus of “Havah Nagilah,” has found its way into the set list.
Set List: Green Suede Shoes, San Patricio Brigade, The Reels, Three Little Birds, Desperate, Izzy, Starry Night, Rockin The Bronx, Different Drummer, Fire of Freedom, Downtown Baghdad Blues, Rosemary, Jigs, James Connolly, 40 Shades of Blue, Funky Ceili Encores: Who Killed Bobby Fuller?, Losin It, Gloria, I Fought The Law
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2007 @ CONNOLLY’S
Just a wonderful show last night on a cold night in New York City. Thanks to my sister for coming to the show, along with Jen & Josh, who are 7 shows away from being “regulars.” And thanks to Larry for dedicating James Connolly to Jen. New song, “Rosemary,” was played for only the second time last night. And as the show progressed, the energy level increased. It’s always great hearing Losin’ It, which is featured on the new DVD.
Set List: Big Fellah, Black Rose, The Reels, Rosemary, Starry Night, Rockin The Bronx, San Patricio Brigade, Fire of Freedom, Downtown Baghdad Blues, Johnny Byrne’s Jig, James Connolly, Who Killed Bobby Fuller, Losin It, Funky Ceili Encores: Green Suede Shoes, Like A Rolling Stone

The crowd was sparse on a cold winter night, but the band warmed up the crowd. A lot of new faces, but some regulars were in attendance. It was nice to meet Staten Island Mike, and the ladies who first saw Black 47 at the Ned Lamont rally in Stamford.
Set List: Green Suede Shoes, Road to Ruin, The Reels, Starry Night, Three Little Birds, Desperate, Red Hugh O'Donnell, Southside Chicago Waltz, Downtown Baghdad Blues, Rockin the Bronx, Different Drummer, Fire of Freedom, Johnny Byrne’s Jig, James Connolly, Livin in America, Funky Ceili Encore: Like A Rolling Stone
SATURDAY, JANUARY 13, 2007 @ CONNOLLY'S
Thanks to all my wonderful family members who made this a special night at Connolly’s; this was indeed the “Rogue Thanksgiving” celebration. Lots of songs from Fire of Freedom tonight, with excellent performances of Sleep Tight in NYC and Fanatic Heart. And it’s always special to see the band do Red Hugh O’Donnell. A few new songs are making their way into recent set lists. Tonight’s first encore, tentatively entitled “New Year’s Eve in Olde Tymes Square,” is one of them.
Set List: Big Fellah, Road To Ruin, Starry Night, The Reels, Red Hugh O’Donnell, Southside Chicago Waltz, Rockin The Bronx, Different Drummer, Fanatic Heart, Fire of Freedom, Johnny Byrne’s Jig, Sleep Tight In New York City, Livin in America, Funky Ceili Encores: New Year’s Eve in Olde Tymes Square, Like A Rolling Stone

What an amazing show and night. First, I stumble up to the 3rd floor and catch a few songs during sound check. Then, Curtain and I get interviewed for the new Black 47 DVD. Next comes over two hours of re-ringing in the new year with the boys. They were on fire, and if that wasn't enough, P2 and the boys pass around shots of Jamesons for all the regulars and ‘04 & ‘06 vets! What a night! I couldn't have asked for a better time. Curtain: thanks for coming down from Boston, despite your travel woes in 4/05. It was great to see you! Next time it’ll be in Beantown.
Set List: Big Fellah, The Reels, Green Suede Shoes, Three Little Birds, Desperate, Danny Boy, Rockin the Bronx, Different Drummer, Fire of Freedom, (Countdown to Midnight) - Old Lange Syne, Those Saints, Maria's Wedding, Downtown Baghdad Blues, Jigs, Starry Night, James Connolly, Funky Ceili Encores: Staten Island Baby, James Joyce
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2006 @ CONNOLLY’S
Two new songs on the set list tonight. It was the debut performance of the spirited “No Love Lost Between Us,” and “One Starry Night,” which Larry stated was a re-worked version of a song he heard a lot during his childhood. Add a terrific “Blood Wedding” to the mix and this was an excellent show. Connolly’s was not packed, but the crowd was very enthusiastic. No Geoff tonight.
Set List: Green Suede Shoes, Road To Ruin, The Reels, San Patricio Brigade, Blood Wedding, No Love Lost Between Us, Rockin’ The Bronx, Forty Deuce, Downtown Baghdad Blues, One Starry Night, Far Side of the Wall, Czechoslovakia, Funky Ceili Encores: Those Saints, James Joyce
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2006 @ CONNOLLY’S
(Thanks to Staten Island Tom for Set List & Review)
It was a sparse but boisterous crowd. It was nice meeting Farty McGasbag at the show. A nice tight set, memorable for the absence of Funky Ceili (only one of a handful of the 50+ shows I’ve seen where it wasn't played).
Set List: Green Suede Shoes, Road to Ruin, The Reels, Those Saints, Starry Night, Rockin the Bronx, Different Drummer, Livin in America, Bobby Kennedy, My Love is in New York, Downtown Baghdad Blues, Sleep Tight in New York City, New York, NY 10019, Johnny Byrnes Jig, Czechoslovakia, Maria's Wedding Encore: San Patricio Brigade
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2006 @ CONNOLLY'S (OPENING NIGHT)

It's been 8 years since I first saw Black 47 at the Oyster Festival, around the corner from what I guess will soon be known as the Old Tower Records, and a few blocks up from the Old CBGBs. (I'm pretty sure I got GSS at that Tower.) I know I bought Fire of Freedom at Sam Goody's, another music chain that is no more. I used to wonder what would've happened if I'd heard the CD before seeing the band live, but now I wonder what would've happened had I not seen the band on that very street corner--would I've had a different reaction? Indeed, given how our city's landscape has changed both physically and musically in the 8 years since I first saw Black 47--not to mention how it's changed since the band first formed--it's reassuring to come back to Connolly's to see Black 47 still there, still playing, still bridging the gap between old world and new, between old New York and new. Larry took the stage to shouts of "Maria!" and "Funky Ceili!" The more things change...... There is a new sound board at Connolly’s. Speakers hang from the ceiling, and the cabinets that used to flank the stage are gone. "Ladies, you're resting your drinks on $2,000 of new speakers," Larry warned at one point. "I know you wouldn't dare spill any." The lighting is new and the ceiling is black and it looked a little crowded because it was darker than usual.
Set List: Banks of the Hudson, Those Saints, Three Little Birds, Desperate, The Reels, One Starry Night, Rockin The Bronx, Different Drummer, Fire of Freedom, Downtown Baghdad Blues, Jigs, Five Points, Czechoslovakia, Livin In America, James Connolly, Maria’s Wedding, Funky Ceili Encore: James Joyce
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2006 @ PEEKSKILL IRISH FESTIVAL
What a beautiful setting. Nice park in northern Westchester, right on the Hudson. Boats were docking to watch and listen and the crowd was very good. One of the opening acts, Sullivan Jacks, joined Black 47 on a number of the songs. Black 47 was introduced by Green Party gubernatorial candidate Malachy McCourt.
Set List: Green Suede Shoes, Livin In America, Reels, Three Little Birds, Desperate, Mychal, Rockin The Bronx, Different Drummer, Those Saints, San Patricio Brigade, Funky Ceili Encore: Maria’s Wedding

FRIDAY, JULY 14, 2006 @ SLAINTE IRISH FESTIVAL, PORT JEFFERSON, NY
[Thanks to Heather for Set List & Review]
I'm glad there was such a big turnout at the Slainte Irish Festival. There was never anything like that when I lived in Patchogue. There were traffic delays all the way out there and it was about a 3 hour drive.to get there. I was worried that everyone was going to continue sitting in their lawn chairs like they did for Eileen Ivers and start complaining that I was in their way and I'm like: “I did not sit in traffic for 3 hours to sit during a Black 47 show.” I think there was a curfew on the show because when P2 tried to do the encore, one of the event staff cut him off while looking at his watch.
Set List: Green Suede Shoes, Livin In America, The Reels, Three Little Birds, Desperate, Southside Chicago Waltz, Rockin The Bronx, Different Drummer, Fire of Freedom, Downtown Baghdad Blues, 40 Shades of Blue, Funky Ceili
SUNDAY, JUNE 25, 2006 @ THE PNC IRISH FESTIVAL, HOLMDEL, NJ
[Thanks to Staten Island Tom for Set List & Review]
Despite a gloomy forecast the rain held off, and the festival was well run. Bands played on schedule, and there were many vendors and a large crowd, but alas no beer sold. As the festival ended, beer was sold in the parking lot for the Springsteen show. Didn't see any of the regulars, but did get to meet Jim from Manalaphan and Shawnea & Ernie were also there.
Set List: Big Fellah, Green Suede Shoes, Three Little Birds, Desperate, The Reels, Fanatic Heart, Southside Chicago Waltz, Rockin the Bronx, Different Drummer, Downtown Baghdad Blues, Johhny Byrnes Jig, 40 Shades of Blue, Funky Ceili Encores: Gloria, I Fought the Law
FRIDAY, JUNE 9, 2006 @ CONNOLLY'S
[Thanks to Gwen a.k.a. Linda for Review & Set List]
This was a special Friday night at Connolly's which marked the final performance of Andrew Goodsight with Black 47. Andrew's band, "Musichead" was the opening act and they were awesome live. This was an excellent and unusual arrangement of tunes - we hear Andrew picked most of the songs.
Set List: Road to Ruin, Far Side of the Wall, Downtown Baghdad Blues, Bells of Hell, Forty Deuce, Elvis Murphy, Rockin the Bronx, 5 Points, James Connolly, Southside Chicago Waltz, Oh Maureen, Jigs, Girl Next Door, Bobby Fuller, Losin It Funky Ceili Encore: Gloria, I Fought the Law
FRIDAY, MAY 5, 2006 @ THE BOWERY POETRY CLUB
[Thanks to Heather for Set List & Review]
May 5th marked the 25th anniversary of Bobby Sands' death and Black 47 played the Peoples Poetry Gathering at the Bowery Poetry Club to commemorate him and other hunger strikers. Two poets read their works, backed by Black 47. First was Cal Sharkey, who read during the break right where Blind Mary segues into Dear Old Donegal; and after Cal read (some in Gaelic), Joe picked up again and lead the band into Dear Old Donegal. Chilling. It was really interesting and the perfect song for his piece, and the transition was seamless. Black Angus read a poem about Marilyn Monroe during one of the breaks in the Jigs, also a perfect choice for him and his poem. It was really cool how both poems fit in with their songs--almost as if the band has been backing up the poets from the get-go, or the songs were written with the poems/poets in mind. And making his big debut was bass player Winston, from Brooklyn, without any rehersals.
Set List: Big Fellah, Green Suede Shoes, Bobby Sands MP, Blind Mary, Her Dear Old Donegal, Rockin The Bronx, Different Drummer, Fire of Freedom, Downtown Baghdad Blues, Jigs, James Joyce, 40 Shades of Blue, Funky Ceili Encore: Like A Rolling Stone

Yes, the kilts - and pipes & drums - were out in full force for Tartan Nite. Kinda hard to feel chilly in the presence of men in skirts. Also on hand was the Niall O'Leary school of stepdancing, dancing in the crowd during The Reels.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY SHOWS:
FRIDAY, MARCH 17, 2006 @ KNITTING FACTORY, NYC [FIRST SHOW]
[Thanks to Staten Island Tom for Set List & Review]
Knitting Factory was crowded. Many new faces, but not many regulars. Not as many kids as in previous years. The band was in fine form and the sound system was excellent. Helping to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day were Tom and Chris Morris. (Two days later, Tom’s alma mater Manhattan College would beat top seed Maryland in the N.I.T.)
Set List: Green Suede Shows, Road to Ruin, Czechoslovakia, The Reels, Danny Boy, Southside Chicago Waltz, Rockin the Bronx, Different Drummer, Fire of Freedom, Downtown Baghdad Blues, James Connolly, Johnny Byrne's Jig, 40 Shades of Blue, Funky Ceili Encore: Maria's Wedding
FRIDAY, MARCH 17, 2006 @ KNITTING FACTORY, NYC [SECOND SHOW]
Absolutely jam packed, sold out show with an enthusiastic, receptive audience. The band responded with a powerful, high energy set. A small group of us who saw The Pogues the night before bonded before and after the show with our thoughts on The Pogues’ performance, which was monumental. After Black 47’s show, I finished my personal St. Patrick’s Day trilogy with a quick ride over to Rocky Sullivan’s to see the end of Seanchai’s set. And wouldn’t you know it, as I settled in to Rocky’s, standing in front of a large Pogues’ poster, Chris did “Time To Go” and followed it up with “Walk All The Days.”
Set List: Big Fellah, Kathleen, Reels, Three Little Birds, Desperate, My Love Is In New York, Downtown Baghdad Blues, Rockin The Bronx, Different Drummer, Jigs, Five Points, Fire of Freedom, James Connolly, Livin In America, Funky Ceili Encore: Like A Rolling Stone
SATURDAY & SUNDAY, MARCH 11 & 12, 2006 (FLORIDA SHOWS)
[Thanks to Ernie, Shawnea & Sara for Set Lists & Review]
Sunny, 85 degrees, palm trees, lost luggage, no pipes, old friends, new friends, and James Connolly’s grandson, made for a most adventurous weekend. So we decided to take a mini vacation, though my wife had been to, and lived in Florida, I’ve never been and was pretty psyched about the trip. The flight uneventful until we landed, only to find that two bags were missing, one was a merch bag, the other contained the bellows to Joe’s pipes. His bodhran was missing too, and by show time at the first Irish Festival of the year they were still missing. Joe picked up one of those penny whistles you always see being sold at the festivals, and this would be his instrument for the evening. The Meyer Auditorium aligned all around with palm trees was an amphitheatre located on the banks of Lake Worth, not far from the Atlantic Ocean. It was a perfect “March” evening for us East Coasters. Joe would play all his parts with the whistle and to his credit, nailed it! The sound suffered no less for the lack of the Uilleann pipes and the band sounded great. During the opening to Rockin’ the Bronx, it was Geoff that kicked it off in the absence of the pipes and it sounded fantastic. The guys pulled it off with no limitations. What a great time, and something different to boot. Sunday’s drive to Tampa was long a 3 ½ hour journey across Florida. It was beautiful out, and on this day as the merch bag showed up, there was still no sight of Joe’s bellows & bodhran. Larry called on his old friend, none other than James Connolly’s grandson -one Brian Heron (does this get any better) - that would have a set of uilleann pipes. Joe used them on stage that evening at Four Green Fields, a classic little Irish joint. Special hello to all the retired and active NYPD in attendance; to all the New Yorkers, now Floridians: to William Bitters & his Pirate Jenny from the Forum; to Pat who’s coming to NY for the St. Paddy’s show; and of course to Brian Heron. What a joyous weekend, beautiful weather, palm trees galore, and swimming in the Atlantic in March before coming back home and the potential of snow for St. Paddy’s Day.

Not far from Joe's old stomping grounds in Pearl River, this club featured plenty of room for dancing, a spirited crowd, and a terrific raised stage. An early soundcheck featured a complete "Too Late To Turn Back." Excellent show on the eve of the band heading down south for some gigs in Florida.

The last show of three nights in a roll was at the Nutty Irishman on Long Island. The show was played to a huge, enthusiastic crowd. No Fred tonight, but the band played an electric set from start to finish. Great seeing Long Island's own Leo & Gale, our new buddies Stephen and "dancing" Jimmy, and Claire(Mrs. Blythe). A short break now, and then the lads set out for five in row next week.

When we first arrived, there were so few people in the pub I was thinking of offering to gas up the boys' van for the trip home! But while local faves The Gobshites were playing, the place started filling up, and by the time Black 47 took the stage, the room was pretty packed. Having listened to Bittersweet Sixteen on the way down, I was excited to hear the new songs live for the first time, and believe me, they did not disappoint. Red Hugh O'Donnell is one of those "anthem" type Black 47 songs with a power and passion that rivals their best; and live, it is just incredible.
Set List: Big Fellah – Kathleen – Reels - Road To Ruin - Red Hugh O'Donnell - Rockin The Bronx – Different Drummer - Fire of Freedom - Southside Chicago Waltz - Downtown Baghdad Blues – Jigs - American Wake - 40 Shades of Blue - Funky Ceili Encore: James Connolly

A special 20 song set highlighted the evening in this Bon Voyage; the last night at Connolly’s before the lads hit the road, before returning for the annual St. Paddy’s Day shows. Later, they’ll return to Connolly’s for 3 shows in April. Tonight’s special guest was Nico. Many of you know him as the band’s road manager for many years, and he jumped on stage to bring out the band for the encores (he hasn’t lost it ladies)… Of the first encore, Larry said they hadn’t played this song in 15 years, and broke into “Patriot Games” in celebration on the “Bittersweet 16” release.
Set List: Big Fellah… Kathleen… Reels… Danny Boy… Road to Ruin… Southside Chicago Waltz… Forty Deuce… Rockin The Bronx… Different Drummer… Three Little Birds… Desperate... My Love Is In New York… Downtown Baghdad Blues… Johnny Byrne’s Jig… Jim Larkin… James Connolly… Forty Shades… Funky Ceili Encores: Patriot Games… Like A Rolling Stone
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2006 @ THE STONE PONY, ASBURY PARK, NJ

I remember as a teenager going down to the shore, being a big Springsteen fan, and knowing of the Stone Pony where the boss himself graced that stage on many an occasion. I never saw Bruce there, only heard of the stories, though caught his show a few times afterwards. Here I was in the legendary Stone Pony, a classic rock-n-roll joint, laden with guitars & memorabilia on the walls. I must admit I was awed as we walked in with all the history. To set the merch table we were given a spot in front of a huge wall, a mural that was an exact replica of the cover of “Greetings From Asbury Park”. Special shout out to all the people working that night. Everyone was as professional as friendly; sweet N.J. was feeling alright!

Larry quickly billed the concert as the "Blizzard Show." Although it had been snowing for hours, there was little accumulation, and though the crowd was held back a bit by the impending snow, all in attendance had a rocking good time. There where birthday celebrations for Shawnea, Jackie & Margaret. Pete from England made the trip. The Radford's from Maryland & the Murphy's from CT were amongst the crowd braving the weather. And the lads delivered. No Geoff this night, but Andrew's return from Florida was scintillating, highlighted by his jam with Hammy during "Johnny Byrne's Jig," as he took it to the thumb in a classic jam like I've never seen. In addition, Fred joined the jam and stepped it up a bit with the brass. Step dancer extraordinaire Christine Timm was also present. As it turned out, the blizzard did pound the city with its all-time record, and everyone returned home safely and the band just played on!
